May Color Play

Welcome to Papertrey Ink's May Color Play feature! This month I chose an inspiration photo from La Tartine Gourmand. The photo inspired a color palette of Berry Sorbet, Melon Berry, Summer Sunrise, Harvest Gold, and Limeade Ice.

Don't those peaches look scrumptious? I fell in love with this color scheme immediately. These colors got me thinking about flowers right from the start. The cheerful, citrusy tones in the inspiration photo lend themselves perfectly to a springtime bouquet.

I started by die cutting and stamping the two largest flowers from the In Bloom stamp set. Then, I pulled the markers in the Berry Sorbet, Melon Berry, Summer Sunrise, and Harvest Gold Copic marker trios. I colored my flowers and set them aside for a moment.

Next, I took a white card base and partially stamped it with the all-text image from Background Basics: Newsprint in Harvest Gold ink. That was then layered with the Quatrefoil Coverplate that had been cut from additional white cardstock. A strip of Melon Berry cardstock that had been stamped with the Mother's Day sentiment was added to the front of the card.

Next, I die cut and stamped my leaves from white cardstock (with Limeade Ice ink) and Limeade Ice cardstock (with white heat embossing). I fussy cut around the green leaves and layered them on the white die cuts. This allowed me to have green stems and keep the overall feeling lighter (the solid green die cuts felt a bit heavy). I layered the blooms and leaves atop the sentiment strip with foam tape. The pearls were colored to coordinate and then added to the flower centers as a final touch.

I hope you've enjoyed this month's project and I hope you'll share your projects using this color scheme over on the Papertrey Ink forum. We'll have a thread ready in the Challenge section that you can use to share photos or links to your projects. Thanks for visiting! Take care!
