June Color Play

Good morning, friends, and welcome to this month's Papertrey Ink Color Play feature! This month we're playing with a palette pulled from a photo of a vibrant flamingo strolling on the beach.

I loved the  contrast of the bold bird against the coastal tones of the beach and couldn't wait to find a fun way to play with them.

I began by texturing a Classic Kraft card base with the Linen & Canvas impression plate. I set that aside while I stamped my focal panel. I used a handful of sets (listed below) to create the raindrops. They were stamped using Spring Rain, Aqua Mist, and Hawaiian Shores inks before being embellished with a bit of Glossy Accents here and there. Next, I stamped my sentiment using Hawaiian Shores ink. I matted that panel with some Aqua Mist cardstock and added the whole piece to the card front with foam adhesive. Then, I die cut some clouds from white cardstock and used a mix of flat and foam adhesives to add them atop my raindrops.

Next, I die cut an umbrella shape and stamped it with the coordinating imagery from Scattered Showers using Pure Poppy and True Black inks. I embellished the umbrella with a strip of Aqua Mist striped paper and coated the strip with fine crystal glitter for some sparkle. That was then mounted to the raindrop panel with more foam tape. Just a sweet note to have handy when I want to spring a little extra love on my fella. Summer Sweetness & Text Block: Baby - Day 5

Good morning, friends, and welcome back for Day 5 of this month's Papertrey Ink countdown! I have had so much fun introducing you to Summer Sweetness and the Text Block: Baby die over the past several days. I want to thank you all again so much for your kind words and enthusiasm during this countdown. I have a few more projects yet to share, so let's get to it!

My first card today features the Text Block: Baby die.

I wanted to reinforce the "little angel" imagery from the sentiment on the die, so I die cut vellum wings using the Love Lives Here: Holiday Die Collection and mounted them to the back of a Lemon Tart onesie. Then, I colored in the piping on the onesie with a white pen and glittered the stamped duck.

Next, I stamped a series of clouds onto an Aqua Mist card front using Fresh Snow ink and adhered that to a white card base. Then, I Xyroned a piece of white cardstock and die cut a Text Block: Baby shape. I mounted that to a piece of clear cardstock and applied strips of foam tape all along the outside edges. I adhered my onesie into place before sprinkling some coarse glitter and sequins onto the card front. To finish the card, I mounted the Text Block shape atop the pile of sequins and glitter to form a shaker element.

My next project is a party ensemble. This concept could be applied to just about any party, but we're going to imagine it as a sleepover for today.

The invitation was the first element I designed.

I began by die cutting the Card Base-ics #2 die from Limeade Ice polka dotted paper and white cardstock. I adhered those together and inserted a die cut circle stamped with the party details. Then, I die cut a popsicle image from both white cardstock and thin birch veneer. I stamped the popsicle using the same technique as yesterday and adhered the pop to the stick layer. I mounted the popsicle to the invitation using foam tape and embellished it with a small crochet thread bow.

Next, I worked on the treat box.

I thought it might be handy to have treat boxes full of tasty snacks ready for the guests at out imaginary sleepover. I began by die cutting the box twice from Limeade Ice polka dotted paper. I assembled the box and then adhered a die cut circle that I'd stamped with one of the sentiments in Summer Sweetness. Then, I added a popsicle just like the one from the invitation and tied the box closed with a piece of white ribbon.

My final piece of the ensemble is a card using the same gift card pocket trick that I used on the Baby Boy Pocket card from the other day.

I began by mounting a piece of Limeade Ice polka dotted paper to a white card base. Then, I Xyroned a piece of Berry Sorbet cardstock and cut it with the new Phrase Play die. I adhered that to a piece of clear cardstock and applied foam tape to the bottom and sides of the frame. I mounted that to the card front and then added a popsicle similar to those on the rest of the ensemble.

Next, I created my vellum folder. I cut the vellum, scored it in half, folded it, and die cut the open edge with the small scalloped border die. I then stamped a "Pull here" arrow onto self-adhesive paper and trimmed it out. I adhered it to the vellum folder in the open space of the "O" in "Enjoy."

Then, I stamped the folder with a sentiment from Summer Sweetness using True Black ink. I popped in a gift card (this one is for Jeni's...so good!) and the ensemble was complete.

Summer Sweetness & Text Block: Baby Die - Day 4

Good morning, all! Welcome back to Day 4 of the Papertrey Ink May countdown. I have a few additional projects to share with you with Summer Sweetness and the Text Block: Baby die, so let's get started!

My first project today is a baby card using the new Text Block die.

I began by stamping the stork and coloring it with white ink on a cotton swab. Next, I Xyroned and die cut a piece of white cardstock with the Text Block baby die and adhered it to the card base. Then I stamped a swaddled baby image onto a piece of white cardstock. I stamped the baby blanket and colored the rest of the image with makers and colored pencils. I fussy cut the image and adhered it to the card front with foam adhesive. As a finishing touch, I embellished the heart on the baby blanket with a coating of Glossy Accents.

The next card today features a trio of colorful, glittered popsicles.

I began by die cutting three popsicle shapes from white cardstock. I stamped one with Limeade Ice, one with Hawaiian Shores, and one with a spectrum I made with Harvest Gold, Limeade Ice, and Hawaiian Shores. To get the spectrum I applied reinkers to a piece of fun foam. I rubbed them in a bit, let them sit and soak in for a couple of minutes, and then dabbed off the the excess with a scrap piece of paper. Then I inked the image as I would with a normal ink pad. I stamped the sticks in Classic Kraft and then overstamped each popsicle with VersaMark before heat embossing with glittered powder.

Next, I die cut a banner shape using the First Place Die Collection and stamped my sentiment using True Black ink. I gave the banner a bit of a wave and adhered it to my Classic Kraft card base. I attached my popsicles to the card front with both flat and foam adhesives for a bit of extra texture.

My final card today is another Summer Sweetness card. This one transforms the popsicle into more of an ice cream bar.

I began by die cutting the popsicle shape from Rustic White, Dark Chocolate, and wood veneer. I pressed the Dark Chocolate pop into a VersaMark pad and clear embossed it several times to create a thick, fudgey appearance. Then, I used the 2 1/4" scalloped oval to die cut the shape. That did sort of smoosh the embossing a bit, but it smoothed out upon reheating. Next, I stamped the Rustic White pop with Pure Poppy and Scarlet Jewel inks and trimmed off the stick. I layered the Pure Poppy pop onto the wood veneer pop and the Dark Chocolate layer atop the whole thing. I reheat the embossing a bit and then sprinkled Champagne micro beads into the embossing while it was still hot; resulting in realistic-looking sprinkles.

Next, I die cut a Monthly Moments: Slide Frame Die from Classic Kraft and textured it with the Rustic Burlap Impression Plate. I adhered that to a Rustic White card base and stamped my sentiment with Dark Chocolate and Pure Poppy inks. I adhered my ice cream pop to the card front with foam tape to finish the whole thing off.

More Summer Sweetness & Text Block: Baby

Good morning, everyone, and welcome back to Day 3 of the May Papertrey Ink countdown! I an back today sharing a few more projects featuring Summer Sweetness and the Text Block: Baby die. I can't wait to show you what I have up my sleeve, so let's get started!

Today's first card is a super quickie. Sometimes you just need a simple card to send to a friend and this one fits the bill.

I began by impressing the scalloped rectangle into my card front using the Monthly Moments: Journal Card 2 Die and the impression plate sandwich for my Cuttlebug. Then, I masked off the scalloped rectangle and stamped the polka dots in Harvest Gold ink. Next, I die cut the popsicle shape and stamped it with the coordinating image using Berry Sorbet, Harvest Gold, Summer Sunrise, and Classic Kraft inks. I stamped my sentiment and a second popsicle into the scalloped area of my card front and then attached my die-cut popsicle using foam tape. Quick and easy!

My second card uses a whole rainbow of popsicles on a fun, bursting background.

I began by stamping the dotted background onto an Aqua Mist card front using Versamark ink. Then, I applied silver Perfect Pearls to the sticky, wet ink. Next, I die cut a banner and stamped the sentiment using True Black ink. I adhered that to the card front with flat adhesive.

Next, I die cut several popsicle shapes and stamped them with a variety of ink colors. I overstamped the popsicles with Versamark and heat embossed them with clear powder. The shiny surfaces turned out perfectly! I mounted each popsicle to the font of the card with foam tape.

My final card today uses a color blocking technique with the new Text Block: Baby die.

I began by Xyroning and die cutting the Text Block shape from white, Lemon Tart, Sweet Blush, and Melon Berry cardstocks. Then, I cut a separate panel to use as the foundation for my Text Block "puzzle." I removed the protective backing as I adhered each piece into place. Next, I stamped a Classic Kraft card base with Background Basics: Needlepoint using Fresh Snow ink. I wrapped a card base with Saddle Stitched ribbon and Rustic Button Twine and mounted my sentiment panel over them with foam tape.

Introducing The Text Block Baby Die & More Summer Sweetness

Good morning, friends, and welcome back to Day 2 of the Papertrey Ink May countdown! I have another introduction to make today, but first I want to thank you all so much for your enthusiasm for Summer Sweetness. Wow! I'm so glad you're all as excited as I am for this new set. I'm having so much fun with these cute, little popsicles. I'm also having a blast with the newest installment in the Text Block die series (that's right, I'm sneaking in a Text Block on you this month). This one's for the babies and it's great for either girlies or fellas. How about we get on to some projects so you can see for yourselves?

I thought it might be fun to play with backgrounds on today's Text Block: Baby cards. The first one is the girlie version.

I began by stamping a plaid pattern using several of the stripes from Background Basics: Super Stripes. Next, I Xyroned a piece of Sweet Blush cardstock on both sides and die cut it using the new Text Block die. I removed the protective backing from one of the layers of adhesive and matted my die cut shape with a panel of vellum cardstock.

I did this to soften the pattern surrounding the die cut shape and keep the design from getting too busy. This also allows the sentiment to be read more easily. I added strips of foam tape to the edges of the panel and mounted it to my card base. Lastly, I removed the second layer of adhesive backing and sprinkled the entire die cut shape with fine glitter. The result is a wonderfully sparkly sentiment perfect for a brand new baby girl.

My second card started similarly, but I worked in a twist for handy gift giving.

I began by stamping the plaid pattern in Fresh Snow, Enchanted Evening, and Simply Chartreuse onto a Classic Kraft card base. Then, I Xyroned one side of a piece of Spring Rain cardstock and die cut it with the Text Block: Baby die. I removed the adhesive backing and adhered the die cut shape to a piece of clear cardstock. Next, I added foam tape to the bottom and sides of the sentiment panel and adhered it to the card front.

Then, I cut a strip of vellum cardstock and scored it in the center. I folded the vellum in half and die cut the ends using the Pinking Shears Border Die. I stamped the "pull here" sentiment along the top edge and tucked a gift card inside the vellum folder before slipping it into the pocket that I'd formed with the Text Block panel. (No, I would not normally give an Old Navy gift card for a new baby, but it was the only one I had conveniently sitting around ready to be used as a prop and it actually matched Enchanted Evening and Spring Rain really well).

It's a fantastic, interactive way to incorporate a gift card and you can do this with any of the other Text Block dies, too. How fun is that?!

My final card today features Summer Sweetness. Have you seen those popsicles that people layer to look like watermelon slices? I thought I'd try my hand at a tiny paper version.

I began by stamping a panel of New Leaf cardstock to look like a watermelon rind. I used the long paint strip from Watercolor Wonder and Pinefeather ink to achieve the effect I wanted. That was adhered to a white card base and set aside. Next, I went about creating my watermelon pop. First, I die cut the popsicle shape from white cardstock. Then, I ripped strips of blue painter's tape to use as masks while inking. I did the Pure Poppy section first. I placed the tape directly on the stamp while inking and removed it to do the actual stamping. I repeated the process for the New Leaf layer.

I used the large drip from the set to stamp the "seeds" in True Black ink and stamped the stick using Classic Kraft. I applied adhesive to the seeds using a glue pen and then embellished with fine black glitter. Next, I die cut a white circle and stamped it with my sentiment using True Black ink. I trimmed off the circle's edge and mounted it to the card front with foam tape. Finally, I added the popsicle with a bit more foam tape. I can't help but smile when I look at that watermelon pop. I mean, how stinkin' cute is that?
