Stamp-A-Faire 2015: Unconventional Materials Challenge

How are you holding up, Papertrey fans? Are you on crafty overload or are you reveling in having a whole day to create? A little of both? Well it's time to rally! We've reached the Unconventional Materials Challenge portion of the day. The challenge this time around is to create a card with hardware store supplies (purchased with a $10 budget). Here's what my hardware store haul looked like:

SAF Unconventional Materials Challenge - Hardware Store Haul

I picked up two different kinds of sandpaper, vinyl bumpers (the thingies you use on drawers), and a screen repair kit. And here's the card I made with those supplies. Can you find everything from my shopping trip?

SAF Unconventional Materials Challenge - Thanks A Bunch Card

I began by creating stencils with the Clouds Dies and post it notes. I sponged on a first layer of ink for my clouds and then used the screen as a secondary stencil to add a little texture. Next, I stamped the sentiment from Petite Pots in Smokey Shadow ink, barely overlapping the clouds. Then, I die cut the pots (also from Petite Pots) from the sandpaper, sponging one of them with Dark Chocolate to alter the color slightly. I also die cut the flowers and stamped them with the coordinating stamps.

I wanted a strip of grass to ground the pots, so I die cut a strip of Simply Chartreuse with the Pinking Shears Border Die and then used the screen patches like an impression plate to add texture (I even used the same sandwich through my die cut machine). I adhered that strip to the card base and mounted the assembled potted plants with flat and foam adhesives. As a final touch, I used the vinyl bumpers to embellish the larger blooms.

What did you pick up at the hardware store? I'm excited to see how you all incorporate your hardware store goodies into your creations!
