Good morning, friends, and welcome back to Day 4 of the
Papertrey Ink New Release Countdown. I'm back with another
Dash Away All project to share - this time a bit of festive home decor (some of you guessed)! I love dressing my home up for Christmas. It's truly one of my very, very favorite things to do and I'm always thinking about new ways to keep things fresh and fun. I thought the reindeer in Dash Away All would make a fantastic garland! Let's take a closer look!
This garland came together remarkably quickly thanks to some assembly line stamping. I began by die cutting all of the reindeer from white cardstock. I stamped each one with the main body of the reindeer in Classic Kraft ink sponged with Cocoa Bean.
Next, I added the noses in Smokey Shadow. Then came the wreaths around their necks. That small image is actually one of the accents in Betsy's Tag Along stamp set from last month and it fits so perfectly is almost like she read my mind. I stamped those in Olive Twist and then used the nose image a second time to stamp berries in Pure Poppy. Then, I used Ruby Slipper Nuvo glitter drops to embellish each berry.
I set those aside to dry (maybe a half hour) before stringing alternating reindeer and white pom-poms onto invisible thread. The holes in the antlers make this super easy and then you don't have to worry about mangling your reindeer as you thread them together. I used a beading needle (long and thin) because I wanted to be able to get though the pom-poms easily and it was perfect.
Just a note: Invisible thread is a little finicky, so you're going to want to be careful not to let it get tangled. I would suggest hanging your garland straight down from a hook or nail in the off-season rather than try to bundle it up and pack it into a box. Trust me.
I am so tickled with this garland! I did two dozen reindeer because our mantel is so wide, but it would also be super cute to do a shorter one with eight black-nosed reindeer and one red-nosed reindeer. Or use them as spacers between letter pennants (for example: spell out "believe" and alternate each letter with a reindeer). I have so many more ideas for garlands! I'm going to have them hanging from everything!
I hope you've enjoyed today's post! I'll be back tomorrow with another
Dash Away All project to share. In the meantime, you'll definitely want to visit

ReplyDeleteBeautiful, so creative... Now I must have this set to make this. Love it!
ReplyDeleteDid you paint the background scene that tops your mantel? It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou're very kind, Mary, but, no, I didn't create that painting. That piece was done by an incredible artist named Aminah Robinson. She was very talented. This is a piece in a series she did to honor the Obama family after the President's election. She and Michelle Obama both have family from South Carolina and she created this piece to celebrate that joint heritage. We love it and feel very fortunate to have it hanging in our home. Thank you for asking!
