December Color Play

Good morning, Friends! Long time, eh? I'm so glad to be back sharing this month's Papertrey Ink Color Play feature with you. Here's the palette we're working with this month:

Christmas crafting is one of my absolute favorite things, but I tend to tire of the traditional red and green color scheme after a handful of cards. I wanted to find a color palette for this month that stays close enough to tradition to satisfy my seasonal whims, but gives enough of a twist that I’d stay excited about my project. The inspiration I found in this photo of vintage ornaments fit the bill perfectly!

I began by die cutting a Text Block: Christmas shape from Pure Poppy cardstock. I trimmed away all except the word "merry" and set it aside for a moment. Next, I trimmed a window from a piece of Aqua Mist cardstock and stamped it with one of the floral images from Songbirds in Fresh Snow ink. I lightly stamped the Christmas music line from Songbirds onto a white card base using Sweet Blush ink. Then, I die cut a scalloped accent from Pure Poppy cardstock using the Journal Card Borders Die and a leafy branch from Ocean Tides cardstock. I adhered the border shape, the "merry," and the leafy branch to my card base before adhering my Aqua Mist layer on top. Next, I stamped "Christmas" from Wet Paint Holiday under the "merry" die cut using Pure Poppy ink. Then, I die cut one of the larger birds from Songbirds from white cardstock and stamped it with a coordinating image using Sweet Blush and Raspberry Fizz inks. I filled in the leaves with Ocean Tides and the speckles with Aqua Mist inks. I die cut one of the more detailed birds from Pure Poppy cardstock and used the resulting flower as a layer on my bird. I mounted the bird to the card base with foam tape and added a glittered, self-adhesive pearl to the flower as a final embellishment.
