Today I'd like to start with a Father's Day card that features patterned paper I created by repeatedly stamping the tools from Handy Hardware. I then added texture with the Linen & Canvas impression plate.
I was so smitten with the way the patterned paper turned out that I didn't want to cover it up too much. To avoid hiding my pattern I stamped my sentiment onto a piece of vellum that I die cut using one of the Half & Half dies.
I stitched that to the top edge of my patterned piece and curled it up a bit with my fingers (just to give it some dimension).
I adhered that whole layer to a Classic Kraft base and mounted Headline Alphabet letters to the vellum with small strips of foam tape. It's a simple card, but I love the boldness of the tool patterned paper.
My second project is a congratulations card. It's not unusual to hear "nailed it" followed by a high-five in our house. It's our way of celebrating things, both big and small. So I had that in mind while I was working on this card. I started by die cutting the Mat Stack 5 shape and stamping it with the image from Modern Wood Mats.
Next, I took one of the stars from Star Prints and stamped it onto a post-it note. I cut down one of the interior lines to give me a slightly smaller star and stuck the post it to the Mat Stack shape. Then I went around the perimeter of the star and stuck a small pin hole everywhere that I wanted to have a "nailhead."
I removed the post-it star and proceeded to glue down a tiny circle of silver cardstock at each of the pin holes. You could easily do the same thing with a silver pen, but I like to make things difficult on myself. I went back and tapped each nailhead with a glitter pen and a tiny, tiny dot of Glossy Accents. It's hard to see in the photos, but the star has great texture and it sparkles just enough.
Next, I created a sentiment banner and stitched it into place on the Mat Stack shape. I mounted that piece to an Aqua Mist base that I stamped with the smallest dot from Polka Dot Basics. Then I went about creating my hammer. I die cut two hammer shapes and stamped and heat embossed one in silver. The other hammer was stamped in Classic Kraft. I trimmed around the handle edge of the Kraft image and adhered it over top of the silver one. The I finished the card by mounting the hammer next to the star on the Mat Stack layer.
My final project today is a spirit banner that I created for my husband (and his mama). See, Sean's a big Reds fan and I thought he might enjoy having a piece of decor that announces his allegiance.
I started by die cutting all of my flags and accessory pieces. Next I stamped my baseball bats on the center flag and heat embossed them with clear powder. Then, the three red flags were stamped with Fresh Snow polka dots and the two white flags were stamped with the stitched background in True Black. Next I assembled the major parts and set them aside.
I stamped and cut out the baseball cap and batting helmet (yes, there are dies, but they've been a little delayed), stamped the stitching on my baseballs, and added texture with the Linen & Canvas impression plate. I layered the "REDS" letters to give a shadowed effect (like their logo) and mounted those to the center flag with foam tape.
The baseballs were mounted to pinked circles and embellished with the word "go." Those were then mounted to the other red flags while the cap and the helmet were mounted to the white flags with foam tape.
Then I punched holes in the corner of each flag and used 1/4" silk ribbon (colored black with a marker) and buttons to thread the flags and keep them secure. Isn't it fun?! I love that these images are generic enough that you can make them work for any team (I'm sure I have an O's banner in my future if my papa-in-law has anything to say about it).
Thank you for stopping by today. I'll see you right back here tomorrow with more of these two new sets. See you then!
