Hold On To Your Shorts

Prepare for cuteness.

We have an early Easter dinner with Sean's family today and the past two days I have been working diligently on these cake pops (a la Bakerella) as my little gift for everyone. I followed Bakerella's instructions using Devils Food cake and vanilla icing. If I were to do these again (or another cake pop that would be covered in a light color) I would use a lighter colored cake (white, lemon, carrot, etc). I really love them though. And since this was my first attempt I destroyed, and therefore ate, my share of pops. They are incredibly yummy. Seriously. Yum.

I wanted to package them in a way that would allow them to be seen easily. I looked at all sorts of packaging and finally settled on these clear boxes from The Container Store. They look expensive, but they really aren't and they can be reused when the family is finished with their pops. I stuck a piece of styrofoam in the bottom of the box to keep the pops in place and covered that with a tuft of green crinkle shred. I also cut a piece of blue cardstock and punched the edges to create a strip to conceal the styrofoam from the outside of the box.

The top of the box is decorated with a little paper tag that I made using a few different die cuts, punches, and stamps. A paper ribbon keeps the tag in place without having to actually adhere anything to the box.

I hope you love them as much as I do. The only downer is the residual sugar headache. I can live with that though. Have a great weekend!

Recipe (for the tag & paper border):
Cardstock: Lemon Tart - Papertrey Ink; Pink - DCWV, White linen - Archivers; Blue - Bazzill Basics (I have no idea what color this is. I was got it directly from the manufacturer and I don't know if it was ever even on sale.)
Ink: Lemon Tart, Summer Sunrise, Sweet Blush, Spring Moss - Papertrey Ink; Seascape - Palette; Lavender Chalk - Colorbox
Stamps: Polka Dot Basics, Faux Ribbon - Papertrey Ink
Tools: Egg Die - Sizzix; Labels 1 - Nestibilities; Scalloped Circle (purple) - Marvy; Scallops & Dots border punch - EK Success
Other: Foam Tape - Scotch

  4. These are the cutest chicks that have ever graced a spring party table. Your packaging is "over the top"!
I recognize that template from Papertrey. I read the recipe and instructions for the cake pops!! Looks like it would take time but WOW, so worth the results. The yellow color for the chicks is really great, too. These are the spectacular!!!!!!! I am sure that the guests were thrilled to receive. Thanks again for sharing!

  8. It's all about the packaging, Liz - incredible job! Very well done! Now, can I have some?! Mmm...yummy! Also, I know that NHL players aren't nearly as darling as little chickies, but I'm sure Sean would appreciate the effort. A little, miniature Malhotra, dressed up in a fondant uniform and propped on top of a hockey stick. Maybe if they make the play-offs?

  13. All I can say is "Oh MY!" These are drop dead cute! I have watched Bakerella on Martha 1000 times, printed out the tutorial, bought the sticks, candy melts, etc. and STILL have not pulled the trigger and made them. It just seems like SUCH a commitment! Kudos to you for a-DOR-able treats!
