Release In Review

Good morning and welcome back to the Release In Review for the Papertrey Ink August countdown. It's been a super fun release with some wonderful new products and I have several projects to share to wrap things up for this month. Let's get to it!

First up, I have a card using both Betsy's Inspired: Blessed and What The Doodle: Tea Time sets.

I used two of the Noted dies to create the frame and then used an embossing sandwich to get the pretty scallops on the inner cut. I created a little table scene with a strip of Classic Kraft stamped with Background Basics: Woodgrain and a triangle of Lovely Laurels paper cut using another Noted die. I sponged a bit of Harvest Gold ink on the card base before stamping the steam (sponged rather than tapped on the ink pad to give it subtlety) and sentiment and adhering the frame.

The tea cup was stamped and die cut from white cardstock and colored very simply with Copics. I adhered it in the frame's opening with foam tape and embellished the tiny dots in the image with fine glitter.

Next is a Thanksgiving card made with Maile's newest Splits: Giving Thanks set.

I began by stamping the frame pieces separately and on an angle on a piece of Rustic White cardstock using Cocoa Bean ink. I randomly added in extra leaves and heat embossed those in gold. I also colored in the acorns with a Copic, being careful to avoid the lines so I wouldn't get smudges.

I adhered that front panel to a Simply Chartreuse card base and then heat embossed the sentiment onto a strip of Terra Cotta Tile cardstock. The sentiment strip was then mounted to the card front with foam tape. I really love the impact of the gold embossing on this simple design. It makes things just a teensy bit fancy.

On this next card I've paired Dawn's Give Thanks sentiment with her Enclosed: Apple and Lexi's new Alphabet Soup for a teacher appreciation card.

I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of Pencil Me In patterned paper and punched a few "binder holes" before adhering it to a Classic Kraft card base. Next I stamped the Alphabet Soup background onto Berry Sorbet cardstock with Pure Poppy ink and die cut it with the Enclosed: Apple die. I sponged around the edges with additional Pure Poppy ink and embellished with a Classic Kraft stem and Green Parakeet patterned paper leaf.

I mounted that to the card front with foam tape and added a Wonderful Words: Teacher die cut that I'd stamped in Aqua Mist ink with the coordinating stamp set. Perfect for letting your favorite teachers know how much you appreciate their hard work on behalf of your kids.

Next I've used Kay's Spooky Smiles set with the Text Block: Halloween die for a sweet Halloween card.

I began by stamping and die cutting the witch's hat from Kay's set before coloring it with Copic markers. I used a Wink Of Stella glitter pen to embellish the sash and set it aside for a moment. Then, I sponged a piece of Winter Wisteria cardstock with Amethyst Allure and Royal Velvet inks before die cutting with the Text Block: Halloween die.

I trimmed out the cobwebs from that die cut and layered the frame and the words onto a second shape, this one cut from vellum. I added a narrow Orange Zest mat and attached the hat with foam tape. That whole piece was adhered to a white card base that I had already stamped with the stars in Script Swirls: Birthday using Limeade Ice ink.

Up next is the second of Kay's sets for this month, Stylized Autumn. Don't you just love Kay's designs?!

I began by stamping the leafy image onto a panel of Spring Moss cardstock using Ocean Tides and Pinefeather inks. I textured that with the Woodgrain Impression Plate and adhered it to a white card base. Next, I die cut the tag shape from white cardstock and sponged on a bit of Ocean Tides ink before stamping the sentiment in Dark Chocolate. I tied on a faux button (cut with the Buttoned Up #2 die) with Rustic Jute Button Twine and mounted the tag to the card front with foam tape.

I then stamped the fox onto white cardstock with Canyon Clay ink and added sponged Terra Cotta Tile to deepen the color. I die cut the fox and adhered it into place on the tag using foam tape.

Last but not least, I have a wedding tag created with Maile's Fancy Foliage stamps and dies.

I began by sponging a piece of white cardstock with Aqua Mist ink. I die cut that with the Tag Sale #8 die and added texture by embossing with the Cover Plate: Quatrefoil die. I layered that piece with a frame cut using the same tag die and set it aside.

Then I heat embossed the sentiment onto a piece of vellum and die cut it with the coordinating die set. I adhered it to the tag with foam tape, hiding it behind the berries. I embellished with clear rhinestones and a Fancy Foliage Details shape cut from Silver Foil Adhesive paper that I'd attached to white cardstock. Simple and elegant.

Halloween Stitching Fun

Good morning and welcome back for Day 5 of the Papertrey Ink August countdown! Today is all about Erin Lincoln's newest collection of Halloween stitching dies and you're sure to be delighted.

I love creating handmade seasonal items to decorate our home, so I couldn't wait to whip up a little Halloween scene when I saw Erin's newest set of dies. I had a blast putting this hoop together! There are definitely more of these spooky scenes in my future. Let's take a closer look!

I began by stitching the largest Stitched Circles die (cut from Winter Wisteria felt) to a printed fabric base. I added a ground with a Hoopla: Stitched Circle Bases shape cut from Simply Chartreuse. Next, I added the Vintage Cream scallops using the Hoopla: Stitched Scallops die. I love the way the contrasting stitching turned out!

Then, I stitched the Harvest Gold moon using the new Stitched Moon & Sketched Stars die. I also added the bats using the Haunted Headstones bats. I wanted them to have dimension, so I just stitched along the center of their bodies and fluffed their wings out a bit.

The cauldron was the last step. I used the new Stitched Beaded Cauldron die to cut the base from True Black, the handle from Smokey Shadow, and the small details from Classic Kraft. The concoction in the cauldron was cut from Summer Sunrise felt and embellished with sequins and beads from a craft store.

Erin has mentioned that she designed this die to be used with 8mm sequins, but the ones I used were definitely smaller (maybe 6mm) and it still looks great. There were a few slightly larger gaps between some of the sequins, but I just filled in with a few extra seed beads and I doubt anyone would ever notice.

I can't wait to do another hoop! Maybe two more, so I can hang all three in a group for Halloween. Thank you so much for joining me today! I hope you enjoyed today's project. Halloween Inspirations

Good morning and welcome back to Day 4 of the Papertrey Ink August countdown! Today is all about Halloween and treat packaging. Halloween is one of my favorite times to give special little treats and goodies. And super fun packaging makes presenting these small gifts even more joyful! I have three kid-friendly (ie: not too creepy or scary) packaging projects to share with you, so let's get to it!

We're going to start today with a small treat bag that I created by adapting the Bunny Bag to fit the fall season.

I started by die cutting the bag twice from Green Parakeet + White patterned paper. I used the Pinking Shears Border Die to trim off the bunny face flaps and then assembled like normal. Then, I die cut the fence from True Black cardstock using the Tiny Town: Spooky Yard die. I adhered that to the bag before coating the surface with Onyx glitter.

Next, I stamped and die cut the pumpkin from Autumn Pumpkins with Summer Sunrise, Orange Zest, and Green Parakeet inks. I added the carved face from Pumpkin Expressions using True Black and adhered it to the bag with foam tape. Next, I die cut the tiny banner from Tag Sale #10, stamped it with the "trick or treat" sentiment, and tucked it under the pumpkin. I punched two holes in the top of the bag using a Crop-A-Dile and tied it closed with Summer Sunrise Saddle Stitch Ribbon. An Orange Zest button and twine bow finished things off nicely.

Next up is a tag I created by pairing Maile's newest Shaped Sayings Die with Betsy's Dress Up Dolls: Halloween.

I began by stamping and die cutting the little girl from the Dress Up Dolls: Basics set along with the costume and seasonal accessories in Dress Up Dolls: Halloween. I colored the pieces with Copic markers and set them aside. Next, I xyroned some Winter Wisteria cardstock and die cut it with the Shaped Sayings: Halloween Die. I stacked three die cuts and glittered the top one for a super sparkly finish.

Then, I die cut at Tag Sale: Quilted shape from white cardstock and masked off the scalloped edges. I sponged the center with Green Parakeet ink before adhering my little girl into place. Then, I added the Trick Or Treat shape to the tag with foam tape. I finished the tag with a bit of Winter Wisteria Saddle Stitch Ribbon, an Orange Zest Button, and some green baker's twine. The little girl looks just like my niece, so this tag will be the perfect embellishment for her Halloween treat bag this year.

Last up today, I have a treat box I made with the new Tiny Town: Spookville die collection. I kept this box more on the kiddo-friendly side by only using the smiling ghost and not using the cobwebs or bats. You could certainly add them though for a creepier end result.

I began by die cutting the house base from Amethyst Allure cardstock. I sponged Amethyst Allure ink around the edges to give a little depth and then stamped "siding" using one of the stripe strips in Plaid Builder.

I assembled the house, backing the windows with clear cardstock and adding a True Black roof, Royal Velvet and Smokey Shadow porch, and Amethyst Allure chimney.

I further embellished with the True Black windows and front door that had all been coated in glitter. I also added Orange Zest pumpkins to the front porch and a happy, vellum ghost emerging from the chimney. I opted to tie my box closed with baker's twine to make sure that little hands wouldn't have any trouble getting inside.

I added a Tremendous Tag that I'd stamped with the sweet little ghost and sentiment from Kay's new Spooky Smiles set. So cute!

Thanksgiving Inspirations

Good morning and welcome to the Papertrey Ink August countdown! Today is our first group post and we're sharing all things Thanksgiving! Autumn crafting is some of my very favorite! I just love the rich colors and natural motifs. The new stamps and dies we're introducing today have me yearning for crisp air, turning leaves, pumpkin picking, and spiced cider. Oooh...I can't wait!

My first card today features Betsy Veldman's new Color Pop: Autumn Kit. I can't even begin to tell you how much fun it was to create the pattern on this card. Her pre-printed background papers make cards like this one an absolute snap!

Before I show you the card I want to share a quick photo I snapped of the background pattern after I was finished with the stenciling. I started with the Fine Linen full-coverage pattern and filled in the blank spaces with the stencils included in the kit. The "elm" leaves were a combo of Summer Sunrise, Canyon Clay, and Orange Zest inks. The "buckeye" leaves were Harvest Gold, Summer Sunrise, and Ripe Avocado. The berries were Terra Cotta Tile, Pure Poppy, Americana, and Ripe Avocado. The flowers were Ocean Tides, Dark Chocolate, Simply Chartreuse, and Ripe Avocado. It turned out so pretty that I didn't want to completely cover it up!

So instead I created a frame using one of the Stitched Rectangle dies with one of the rectangles from the Noted: Scalloped A2 Die Collection. I heat embossed a sentiment from Dawn's New Every Morning set onto vellum and adhered that into the frame opening. I tied a bow of Rustic Jute Button Twine through the holes in the Stitched Rectangle and adhered that whole piece into place on the front of my card.

Next, I die cut the pre-printed flower stem (I love these patterned papers!) and adhered it to the card front with a bit of foam tape. Then, I embellished the flower centers very simply using Glossy Accents. It adds just a bit of texture without distracting from the sentiment or the background.

The rest of my projects for today go together as an ensemble for your Thanksgiving Hostess.

Any of these items can stand perfectly well on its own, but presented together you have a nice gift that coordinates beautifully without being too matchy matchy. Let's start with the card.

I began by sponging a bit of Fine Linen Ink onto a Rustic White card base. Then, I stamped the striped pattern using Plaid Builder and an assortment of autumnal ink colors. Then, I stamped the sentiment and the tall pumpkin from Autumn Pumpkins onto a smaller panel of Rustic White cardstock. I stamped and die cut the smaller pumpkin on an extra scrap before adhering it into place on the Rustic White panel with a piece of foam tape.

I added a handful of Classic Kraft dots before mounting that panel to the card front with strips of coaster (it's thinner than foam tape, but gives a similar effect). The card still needed a little something, so I added a bow with a length of natural waxed cord.

Next up is the wine tag.

I wanted to keep the colors similar to those on the card to make sure everything coordinated, so not much changed in that department. I began by sponging the Rustic White tag with a little bit of Spring Moss just to soften the white-ness. Then I stamped the sentiment from Betsy's new Paper Clippings: Thankful for you set with Cocoa Bean ink. I die cut and stamped the shocks of wheat and leaves (also from the Paper Clippings set) and arranged those on the lower half of the tag. Next, I heat embossed the sentiment from Nichole's Keep It Simple: From All Of Us onto an Americana banner (a Sketched Shapes banner that I ran through twice to get the double cut ends) and mounted it to the tag with foam tape. I finished things off by adding a Autumn Pumpkins gourd that I'd stamped and die cut just like the one on the card.

And last but not least is the little treat bag.

I started this one by die cutting the Get A Handle On It shape from Rustic White cardstock. I sponged on a bit more Spring Moss before stamping the wheat along the handle's curve. Next, I die cut the long banner shape from Ripe Avocado cardstock and stamped it with the Plaid Builder stripes using the matching ink. I adhered it to the handle piece and then layered on a Paper Clippings shape that I'd die cut from Canyon Clay. I adhered that whole piece to a kraft lunch sack that I'd trimmed down with pinking shears. I used a piece of velcro on the back to make it easier for the hostess to open the bag without having to tear the whole thing apart in the process.

Lucky Break - Day 2

Good morning and welcome back for Day 2 of the Papertrey Ink August countdown! I'm back today with a few more projects featuring my new set, Lucky Break. Nichole and Amy Sheffer are also introducing this set today, too, so make sure to check in with them to see more of it in action. Let's get on to some projects, shall we?

Let's start with a traditional Thanksgiving project. I wanted to show how elegant this set can be, so I set about using a simple cream, brown, and gold color palette.

I began by heat embossing the herringbone pattern onto a Vintage Cream card base using gold powder. Next, I die cut the wishbone from a Dark Chocolate panel and heat embossed the sentiment, also with gold powder.

Then, I carefully taped off the center of the panel and painted just the edges with gold watercolor. It gives such a luxe appearance without adding the bulk of a mat layer. Once my edges were dry I removed the tape and added that panel to the card base with foam tape. Simple and sophisticated.

Next up is a card that's so incredibly easy it's almost embarrassing. But it's a great masculine design and it can be dressed up with sequins, rhinestones, or baker's twine for a more ladylike version.

I began by stamping the wishbones onto a Classic Kraft card base using Fresh Snow ink. I added the sentiment in True Black and then textured the front of the card with the Linen & Canvas Impression Plate. And then I talked myself in and out of adding embellishments for an hour. Ta da!

But really, you could easily do this same design in other colors or you could whip this baby together on your way out the door to an "oops-I-forgot-about-that-graduation-party" get together. Because who hasn't been there at least once, right?

I have one last project for today. It's a quirky spin on a birthday card and would be perfect for November birthdays.

I began by heat embossing the wishbone onto watercolor paper using white embossing powder. Then, I painted around it using Hawaiian Shores ink. Once the initial layer of color was dry, I speckled on additional Hawaiian Shores and Tropical Teal inks. I also added white flecks using Opaque White Pigment from Copic.

After all that had dried, I stamped my sentiment in True Black and trimmed the panel down a smidge. I mounted it to a white card base with foam tape and added a handful of Sunshine & Rainbows sequins. I'm going to be very sad when that little baggie is empty. I love those sequins.

Introducing Lucky Break

Good morning and welcome to the first day of the Papertrey Ink August countdown (as always, the new products we're showcasing over the next several days will be available for purchase on the 15th from the Papertrey Ink website)! I have a unique little mini set called Lucky Break to share with you this month and I hope you get as much of a kick out of it as I do.

We're going to start this countdown with a Thanksgiving card. I absolutely love fall crafting, so this is going to be tons of fun!

I began by stamping the background pattern onto a Classic Kraft card base using Autumn Pattern Prints (in the Vault, but still one of my favorite background sets for this time of year) and the stitched line from Plaid Builder using Canyon Clay and Ripe Avocado inks. Next, I used some fancy selective die cutting magic (not really magic; just position your cutting plate only over the area you want to cut) to trim just one side of the wishbone from a panel of Rustic White cardstock. I stamped the wishbone in the resulting area using Fine Linen ink that I rock 'n rolled in Classic Kraft.

I stamped "Thanksgiving" onto the Rustic White panel with Cocoa Bean ink and adhered a narrow mat of the matching cardstock along the wishbone edge. I mounted that panel to the card base with foam tape before adding a Ripe Avocado banner that I'd heat embossed with the rest of the phrase. I just weaved the banner through the open space in the wishbone panel to make it feel a bit more integrated.
